Cain leads his brother Abel out into the field, where in his anger he rises up and kills him (Genesis 4). A watercolor by the French painter James Tissot, from his illustrated Old Testament.

French painter who, after a vision experience in 1885, devoted the rest of his career to an extensive illustrated New Testament based on travel through the Holy Land. His watercolors are now held at the Brooklyn Museum.
