What Does 1 John 1:10 Mean?
John presses the point a final time. To say we have not sinned is more than self-deception; it contradicts God Himself, who declares that all have sinned. Such a claim makes Him a liar, and shows His word is not in us.
God's testimony about the human condition is meant to humble us into grace. To reject it is to set ourselves against the very word that would save us. The whole movement of these verses runs from honesty to mercy: admit the truth, and find a faithful God who forgives. Christ came precisely for sinners, and His word, once welcomed, leads us home.
