What Does 1 John 2:13 Mean?
John speaks to the whole community in three groups. The fathers have known Him who is from the beginning; the young men have overcome the wicked one; the little children have known the Father. Each is affirmed for what is already true of them.
Whatever our stage in the faith, there is something to celebrate. Maturity rests in knowing the eternal Christ; strength shows in victory over the evil one; even the youngest in faith know the Father. John writes to encourage, reminding each that grace has already done much. The Christian life is not a striving from emptiness but a building on gifts God has already given.
