1 John 2:14

I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

John repeats his address to fathers and young men, adding that the word of God abides in the strong.

What Does 1 John 2:14 Mean?

John returns to the fathers and young men. The fathers again are marked by knowing Him who is from the beginning. The young men are strong, and the secret of their strength is named: the word of God abides in them, and so they have overcome the wicked one.

Spiritual strength is not self-generated. It comes as God's word dwells within, taking root and bearing fruit in victory over evil. The repetition drives the encouragement home. Where Scripture abides, there is power to overcome temptation. John wants every reader to know that a life soaked in God's word is a life equipped to stand against the wicked one.
