What Does 1 John 2:22 Mean?
John names the central lie: denying that Jesus is the Christ. The one who does so is the liar, indeed the antichrist. And to deny the Son is to deny the Father as well, for the two cannot be separated.
Here is the heart of the matter. The truth about Jesus is not one doctrine among many but the dividing line. To reject Him as the Christ is to cut oneself off from the Father, since the Father is known through the Son. John presses this so his readers will hold firmly to who Jesus is, for to lose the Son is to lose all.
