What Does 1 John 3:13 Mean?
John gently prepares his readers: do not marvel if the world hates you. Having mentioned Cain, he shows that hostility from the world is to be expected, not feared as something strange.
The world that hated Christ may also hate those who follow Him. This should not shake our faith or surprise us. John writes so his readers will not be discouraged when met with opposition. To be hated by a world set against God can even confirm that we belong to Him. The call is to keep loving, even when love is not returned, trusting the One the world rejected.
