An overseer must be blameless, faithful in marriage, self-controlled, hospitable, and able to teach.

What Does 1 Timothy 3:2 Mean?

Paul lists the marks of a fit overseer: a blameless reputation, faithfulness to one wife, watchfulness, sober judgment, good conduct, a welcoming home, and the ability to teach.

These are not extraordinary feats but the steady virtues of a trustworthy life. Character comes before gifting. The one who guides others must first be the kind of person others can safely follow.
