What Does 1 Timothy 3:7 Mean?
Paul adds that a leader's good name must extend even beyond the church, to those outside. His conduct should win respect from neighbors who do not share his faith.
A poor reputation in the wider world brings reproach on the gospel and lays a snare for the leader himself. The watching world judges the church by its leaders; Paul asks that they give no cause for scorn.
