Anyone who comes without the true teaching of Christ should not be welcomed in or sent off with a blessing.

What Does 2 John 1:10 Mean?

The elder now gives practical counsel for a real situation. Traveling teachers depended on the hospitality of local believers, and a home that received such a teacher lent support to his message. So if someone arrives who does not 'bring this doctrine' — the true teaching about Christ — the household must not receive him or wish him well on his way.

This is not coldness toward strangers but careful protection of the flock. To house and bless a false teacher would be to help spread what undermines the gospel. The reader learns that genuine love is not the same as endorsing everything; faithfulness sometimes means refusing to lend our support to what would lead others away from the truth of Christ.
