What Does 2 Timothy 1:17 Mean?
Paul continues his tribute to Onesiphorus. Arriving in Rome, this friend did not let Paul languish unknown but searched diligently, refusing to give up until he located the imprisoned apostle.
Finding a prisoner in Rome was no small effort, and seeking him openly carried risk. Yet Onesiphorus pressed on until he found Paul. The diligence is the point: love that does not quit until it reaches the one it seeks. This is a small echo of the way God Himself seeks the lost, never resting until they are found. For the reader, Onesiphorus models a love that takes trouble, that goes out of its way, that keeps looking. To seek someone out in their hardship and stay until you find them is a deeply Christlike thing to do.
