Paul warns Timothy to be on guard against Alexander, who strongly opposed their message.

What Does 2 Timothy 4:15 Mean?

Paul adds a practical warning about Alexander: Timothy should be on guard against him, for this man strongly opposed the message they preached. The caution is meant to protect Timothy and the work.

Entrusting judgment to God, as Paul did in the previous verse, does not mean ignoring real dangers. Paul still warns Timothy to be wise and watchful around a known opponent of the gospel. Love and discernment work together; we forgive and release vengeance, yet we remain alert to those who oppose the truth. For the reader, this is balanced wisdom. We need not be naive about opposition even as we refuse bitterness. Protecting the work of God and the people in it sometimes means naming dangers plainly and staying watchful, all while leaving the final reckoning in the hands of the Lord.
