John hopes to visit Gaius soon and speak in person, sends a blessing of peace, and exchanges greetings between friends.

What Does 3 John 1:14 Mean?

The letter ends as John hopes it began in his heart, looking toward a reunion. He trusts he will see Gaius soon and speak "face to face," the meeting that ink could not replace. Then come his closing words: a blessing of peace, greetings from the friends with him, and a request to greet the friends there by name.

To greet "by name" is tender and personal; these are not a faceless crowd but individuals known and loved. The blessing "peace be to thee" carries the deep wholeness God gives. John's farewell reminds us that the church is a fellowship of named and cherished people, bound together in Christ. Even a small letter closes with the warmth of friendship and the peace that comes from God.

In the Original Language

eirene (εἰρήνη), "peace" — not merely calm but the full well-being and wholeness God gives to His people.
