What Does Colossians 3:25 Mean?
Paul balances the promise of reward with a warning of justice. He that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done -- God's righteous judgment applies to all, repaying evil as surely as it rewards good.
And he adds a leveling truth: there is no respect of persons. God shows no favoritism; rank, wealth, and status carry no weight before him. This both warns masters not to abuse their power and assures servants that injustice done to them will not stand forever. The same God who rewards faithfulness will also right every wrong. For the Colossians, this is profoundly steadying. In a world of unequal power, God judges impartially, holding everyone to the same standard. No one escapes through privilege, and no one is forgotten through lowliness. Divine justice, perfectly fair, undergirds the whole order of the believing household.
