Paul testifies to the great effort Epaphras expends for the Colossians and for the churches in Laodicea and Hierapolis.

What Does Colossians 4:13 Mean?

Paul adds his personal witness to the labor of Epaphras, named in the previous verse. I bear him record -- Paul vouches for him -- that he hath a great zeal for you, an earnest, costly concern for the church.

That concern reaches beyond Colosse to them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis, the neighboring towns of the same valley. Epaphras carried a pastor's heart for the whole region, not one congregation alone. Paul's testimony honors this faithful man before the people he serves, assuring them of the depth of his care. For the Colossians, knowing their teacher labored so strenuously for them and their neighbors would deepen their trust and gratitude. Genuine ministry, Paul shows, spends itself in zealous effort for the good of others. Epaphras stands as a model of one who pours out his strength for the churches he loves.
