What Does Haggai 2:8 Mean?
The people might have grieved that they could not adorn the new temple as Solomon had adorned the first. God answers that all the silver and gold of the world are already His. The glory of His house does not depend on the people's limited resources, for the One they serve owns every treasure in existence.
This is a freeing word for any who feel their offering to God is too poor. The Lord is not impoverished by our scarcity; He possesses all wealth and needs nothing we can supply. What He desires is not our gold but our obedience and our hearts. The God who owns the silver and the gold can glorify a humble house beyond all expectation, for His riches are without limit and His presence is the only adornment that finally matters.
