What Does Joel 3:14 Mean?
The prophet cries out at the sight: multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision. The repetition conveys the staggering numbers gathered there. He names the place the valley of decision, for it is where God's verdict is rendered, and he declares that the day of the LORD is near at hand. The whole scene is poised on the edge of the great reckoning.
The word decision speaks of the cutting, decisive judgment of God, the moment when all is determined. The vast multitudes underscore that no nation and no person finally stands outside this day. It is a sobering vision of the whole world brought to a single point of accountability before God. Yet for the reader the valley of decision also presses a personal question: where will I stand on that day? The way of safety, as the prophet has already shown, is to call on the name of the Lord, who is the refuge of His people even as He judges the earth.
In the Original Language
