God charges the nations with plundering His silver, gold, and treasures and carrying them into pagan temples.

What Does Joel 3:5 Mean?

The charge continues: the nations took His silver and His gold and carried His goodly pleasant things into their own temples. The plunder included treasures dedicated to God, perhaps from the temple itself, now displayed as trophies before foreign gods. God calls these things my silver and my gold, claiming ownership of what was robbed from His people and His house.

To loot what was devoted to the Lord and parade it before idols was a double offense, both theft and blasphemy. It exalted false gods at the expense of the living God. Yet the very claim my underscores that nothing truly belongs to the nations; all things are God's, and He will reclaim what was taken. The verse reminds us that God's honor is bound up with His people, and that He will not leave His glory permanently in the hands of those who scorn Him. What was carried off in pride will be answered in judgment.
