God declares that the oppressors' own children will be handed over to Judah and sold far off, for the LORD has spoken it.

What Does Joel 3:8 Mean?

The judgment is measured and exact. As the nations sold Judah's children to distant peoples, so their own sons and daughters will be given into the hand of Judah and sold to the Sabeans, a people far off. The sentence fits the crime precisely, returning upon the oppressors what they did to others. And it is sealed with the weightiest of guarantees: for the LORD hath spoken it.

God's justice answers wrong in kind, that all may see the fairness of His judgment. The closing phrase, the LORD hath spoken it, makes the outcome certain, for God's word does not fail. What He declares will surely come to pass. This is both warning and comfort: warning to those who deal in cruelty, that their deeds will return upon them, and comfort to the wronged, that God's redeeming verdict is as sure as His own word. The Judge of all the earth will do exactly what He has said.
