At the LORD's command, the fish casts Jonah out onto dry land.

What Does Jonah 2:10 Mean?

God answers Jonah's prayer with a word, and even the great fish obeys. The LORD spake unto the fish, and it cast Jonah out upon the dry land. The same God who appointed the fish to swallow him now commands it to release him. Jonah, who first went down into the deep, is returned to the dry land, the firm ground of life and a second chance.

The whole sea creature is at God's beck and call, a reminder that all creation serves His word. Jonah did nothing to free himself; he prayed, and God acted. Deliverance came as a gift, not a reward. The prophet who sank in death is set again on solid earth, raised up to live and, this time, to obey. It is a small resurrection, and it leaves Jonah with a fresh opportunity to do what he had refused. God's mercy not only rescues us but restores us to the path we abandoned.
