What Does Jude 1:8 Mean?
Jude returns from the examples to the present troublemakers, calling them filthy dreamers. The word suggests people guided by their own private visions rather than by revealed truth, acting on imagined permission. Their conduct shows itself in three ways, and Jude lists them plainly.
They defile the flesh, corrupting the body God made good. They despise dominion, refusing rightful authority. And they speak evil of dignities, hurling insults at beings of glory they do not understand. Beneath the bravado lies a heart that recognizes no order higher than itself. This is the opposite of the way of Christ, who though Lord of all submitted to his Father and honored what God had established. Jude exposes the pattern so the church will not mistake arrogance for freedom.
