Paul's imprisonment for Christ has become known throughout the imperial guard and beyond.

What Does Philippians 1:13 Mean?

Chained to a succession of Roman soldiers, Paul found that his captivity became a witness. Word of why he was imprisoned, his bonds in Christ, spread through the palace guard and well beyond.

Paul could not travel or preach in the open, yet the gospel reached people he could never have approached otherwise, the very soldiers and officials of Rome. His chains became a pulpit. What looked like the silencing of a messenger turned into the message reaching the heart of the empire. God is not confined by the walls that confine his servants. A life surrendered to Christ preaches even when the mouth is bound, and the place of our limitation may become the place where Christ is most clearly seen.
