What Does Philippians 1:19 Mean?
Paul's confidence rests on two supports: the prayers of the Philippians and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Together he trusts these will turn his present trial toward his salvation, his ultimate good and deliverance.
He does not face his hardship alone or on his own resources. The intercession of his friends and the abundant help of God's Spirit hold him up. Notice how Paul links the two; the prayers of believers and the supply of the Spirit work together, not in competition. When we pray for one another, we participate in the channel through which God sends his help. Paul leans on both, and so he can speak of even his imprisonment turning to good.
In the Original Language
epichoregia (ἐπιχορηγία), 'supply' -- a full and generous provision, originally the lavish furnishing of a chorus for the stage.
