What Does Philippians 3:11 Mean?
Paul names the horizon toward which all his striving runs: the resurrection of the dead. His phrasing, if by any means I might attain, breathes humility and longing rather than doubt about God's promise.
The resurrection is the believer's great hope, the final triumph of life over death, and Paul orients his whole existence toward it. His words do not betray uncertainty about whether God will raise his people, but rather a holy earnestness, a refusal to presume, a desire to press on faithfully to the end. He will not coast or take the goal for granted. Like a runner straining toward the finish, Paul keeps his eyes fixed on the resurrection and bends every effort toward it. The hope of rising with Christ gives shape and urgency to all he does, and he pursues it with his whole heart.
