What Does Philippians 3:18 Mean?
Paul interrupts with a grief-stricken warning. Many walk, he says, as enemies of the cross of Christ, a thing he has told them often and now repeats even with weeping.
The tears are striking. Paul does not denounce these enemies with cold contempt but with a broken heart, sorrowing over those whose lives oppose the very cross that saves. False ways of living are not merely errors to be refuted but tragedies to be mourned. Paul's weeping reveals a pastor's love even for those who go astray. He warns sharply because he cares deeply, longing that none would be lost. The cross stands at the center; to live against it is to reject the love that gave everything. Paul's tears measure both the danger and the depth of his concern.
