What Does Philippians 4:10 Mean?
Paul turns to thank the Philippians for their gift. He rejoiced greatly in the Lord that their care for him had flourished again, like a plant blossoming anew, and he is quick to add that they had always cared but had simply lacked the opportunity to show it.
There is graciousness in his thanks. Paul does not hint that they had neglected him; he assumes the best, recognizing that circumstances, not coldness, had kept them from helping sooner. His joy is in the Lord even here, seeing God's hand behind their renewed kindness. The image of their care flourishing again is warm and alive, like spring returning to a tree. Paul receives their gift with gladness and generosity of spirit, honoring their love rather than scrutinizing its timing. Genuine gratitude thinks well of the giver and rejoices in the kindness without keeping accounts.
