What Does Philippians 4:23 Mean?
Paul ends as he began, with grace. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, he writes, sealing the letter with Amen.
Grace opened the letter and grace closes it, framing everything in between. Paul's final word is not an instruction but a blessing, a prayer that the unmerited favor of the Lord Jesus would rest upon them all. It is grace that saves, grace that sustains, and grace that will carry them home, and Paul commends them to it. The word all leaves no one out, embracing the whole church in this benediction. There is no better gift to wish upon those we love than the grace of Christ. With this prayer Paul lays down his pen, entrusting the Philippians, and all who read, to the keeping of the Lord whose grace is sufficient for every need.
