Context

This is the closing verse of Revelation and of the entire Bible, a benediction pronouncing the grace of Christ upon all who read.

What Does Revelation 22:21 Mean?

Revelation 22:21 is the final verse of the Bible, closing the whole of Scripture with a benediction of grace upon God's people. After all the visions of thrones, judgments, and the renewed creation, the book ends not with a thunderclap but with a gentle blessing: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all."

Grace -- the undeserved favor and kindness of God shown in Christ -- is the note on which everything closes. It is fitting that the grand sweep of the Bible, which began with creation and journeyed through redemption to the new creation, ends by praying this grace over its readers. The blessing is wide and warm: "with you all," embracing the whole company of believers. The simple "Amen" seals the prayer, inviting every reader to make it their own. This closing verse reminds the believer that the entire story rests on grace from beginning to end. The same Lord who is Alpha and Omega, who promises to come quickly, leaves His people with His favor as their constant companion. As they live in hope of His return, they do not wait alone or unsupported. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ goes with them, sustaining them until that day. It is the perfect final word for the whole of Scripture.

In the Original Language

"Grace" is "charis" (χάρις), favor, kindness, and gift freely given. "Amen" affirms 'so be it,' sealing the blessing as a prayer.

Application

This verse assures believers that the grace of Christ accompanies them as their constant companion, sustaining them in hope until His return.
