What Does Titus 2:5 Mean?
Paul continues the curriculum for young women: to be discreet and pure, attentive to their homes, kind, and joined in willing partnership with their husbands. Each quality describes a life ordered by faith and lived with integrity in the most ordinary settings. Then Paul gives the reason that crowns the list: so that the word of God will not be slandered.
The motive lifts these instructions above mere social custom. How believers live either commends or discredits the gospel before a watching world. A life marked by purity, devotion, and love adorns the message; a careless life invites mockery of it. For the reader, this is a sobering and dignifying truth. Our daily conduct is a witness. The honor of God's word is, in part, entrusted to how we live, so that others might see Christ in us and not turn away.
