Zephaniah 3:11

In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.

In the day of restoration God will remove the proud and lift away the shame of His people's past sins.

What Does Zephaniah 3:11 Mean?

The promise grows tender. In that day God's people will not be put to shame for their past transgressions, for God Himself will take away the shame. He will remove from among them those who exult in pride, so that they will no longer be haughty on His holy mountain. The proud are taken out, and the humbled remnant is left, cleansed and unashamed.

How gracious that God promises to lift the weight of past sin so His people need not carry its shame forever. He does not merely forgive; He removes the very pride that caused the fall, leaving a people made humble and whole. This is the deep work of restoration, dealing not only with guilt but with the heart's disposition. It anticipates the gospel's promise that there is no condemnation for those in Christ, who takes away both our sin and our shame and clothes us instead in His own righteousness.

In the Original Language

bosh (בוּש), 'ashamed' -- to be put to shame, disgraced, or disappointed, here a shame that God Himself promises to remove.
