Immaculate Conception Church

About this church

Immaculate Conception Church in downtown Fort Smith celebrates Sunday Mass in English at 7:30 and 10:00 a.m., in Spanish at noon and 2:00 p.m., and a youth Mass at 5:00. English daily Mass is listed Monday through Saturday at 7:00 a.m., with Spanish Mass Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. Reconciliation is available Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 and Saturdays at 3:30, or by appointment. The church has upper and lower parking lots around the property, and its first-visit page encourages guests to wear whatever allows them to focus on the liturgy.

The parish’s story is closely tied to Irish Catholic migration to Fort Smith in the 1840s and 1850s. The Sisters of Mercy arrived in 1853 and went on to establish schools, care for Civil War wounded, build hospitals, and serve the community’s spiritual needs. Today the parish states a mission of proclaiming Jesus through Word, sacraments, and works; forming people in Catholic teaching; caring for the parish and city; and bearing Christian witness. The bilingual schedule, multiple Sunday choices, weekday Eucharist, and clearly explained parking make Immaculate Conception especially useful for Catholics seeking a historic central-city parish with substantial English- and Spanish-language access.
