Berkeley Friends Church

About this church

Berkeley Friends Church holds adult education and Sunday School for children and teenagers at 10:00 a.m., followed by hybrid Meeting for Worship at 11:00 in person and on Zoom. Worship may combine prayer, congregational singing, member-provided music, meditative readings, a children's story, Scripture, a sermon, and periods shaped by Quaker waiting worship. Children are included in age-appropriate ways, and staff and volunteers are screened and receive ongoing safety training.

The congregation identifies as a Christian Quaker community centered on the living presence and guidance of Christ. It explicitly welcomes people across race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, age, ability, national origin, and economic circumstance into full participation. The Berkeley Food Pantry is one concrete expression of its commitment to relieve suffering and address injustice. For first-time visitors, attending at 10:00 provides education before worship, while joining at 11:00 offers the clearest introduction to the Friends tradition. The online option can help someone unfamiliar with Quaker practice preview the mixture of prepared and contemplative elements.
