St George Greek Orthodox Church

About this church

St. George Greek Orthodox Church begins Sunday Orthros at 9:00 a.m. and Divine Liturgy at 10:00 in Downey. The sequence gives visitors the option to experience the preparatory morning service before joining the parish’s central Eucharistic worship. Orthodox prayer, Scripture, hymnody, and sacramental tradition shape the gathering, while the church’s public invitation emphasizes serving, connecting, and growing together.

Youth ministry supports faith, learning, and spiritual growth across generations. Each year, the Greek Festival welcomes the wider Los Angeles community through food, music, dance, and introductions to Orthodox heritage, making parish culture accessible beyond a regular Sunday. A first-time guest can arrive before 9:00 for the fullest experience or before 10:00 for Divine Liturgy. People unfamiliar with Orthodox worship do not need to master the service beforehand, but should allow time to observe its rhythm. Families should confirm current youth programming and feast-day schedules, because major Orthodox observances may add services or alter the ordinary Sunday pattern. Festival visitors should use the current annual dates rather than a prior year’s announcement.
