Saint Mel Catholic Church

About this church

St. Mel Catholic Church celebrates a Saturday vigil Mass at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday Masses at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. at 4745 Pennsylvania Avenue in Fair Oaks. The 10:30 Sunday Mass streams on Facebook. Weekday Mass is offered at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; Tuesday’s Mass is followed by the Mother of Perpetual Help devotion. Saturday confessions run from 3:00 to 4:00 in the Baptismal Room, with appointments also available.

The parish describes itself as a vibrant, singing Catholic community. Its music ministry spans traditional, contemporary, men’s, and youth choirs, with organ, piano, strings, winds, brass, guitar, bass, and percussion supporting congregational song at different liturgies. Visitors seeking quiet prayer can use the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel during its separately published open hours. Faith formation, OCIA for people exploring Catholicism, St. Vincent de Paul, Legion of Mary, Knights of Columbus, veterans, marriage, and Scripture-study ministries provide routes beyond Mass, and St. Mel also operates a parish school. Its Fair Oaks roots date to a mission cross dedicated in 1921; the current church opened for worship in 1973 after the parish developed its Pennsylvania Avenue campus.
