St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church

About this church

St. Nicholas of Myra Byzantine Catholic Church celebrates the Divine Liturgy on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. at 9112 Oleander Avenue in Fontana. Holy-day services are generally listed at 7:00 p.m., although the parish notes that times can vary. Confession is available during the thirty minutes before each service. The parish follows the Byzantine Rite while remaining in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, giving visitors in the Inland Empire a distinct Eastern Catholic worship option. The official calendar and bulletin are the best places to check for schedule changes.

The community began in June 1958, initially celebrating liturgy in classrooms at Newman High School before moving into a converted house later that year. Its history traces the development of a permanent parish home and the traditions carried by Byzantine Catholic families. Parish life extends beyond liturgy through local charitable help, support for a school in Mexico, and recurring food and clothing assistance to communities in Baja California. The site also posts clergy and staff information and periodically invites worshippers to remain for coffee and fellowship, useful details for someone hoping to learn the rhythm of this small Catholic community.
