Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

About this church

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church worships in person and by livestream at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 380 North Fairview Avenue in Goleta. Holy Communion is served each week. Music alternates by Sunday: the first, third, and fifth Sundays use a traditional liturgical form with organ or other instruments, while the second and fourth feature a contemporary service led by a praise band. Preservice announcements and music on the livestream generally begin around 9:25.

The congregation was organized as a mission in 1959 and occupied its sanctuary by its second anniversary. It has maintained a strong commitment to preaching and studying God's Word, and established a preschool in 1986 to serve local children and families. Good Shepherd also supports gospel work beyond California, including partnership with a missionary family in Indonesia. Its strategic ministry language connects listening to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, with encouraging believers and sharing the gospel. Visitors who prefer a particular musical form can select the appropriate week without changing the service hour; those who want to preview the liturgy can watch online, while families may also encounter the church through its longstanding preschool.
