St. John Henry Newman Catholic Church

About this church

St. John Henry Newman Catholic Church in Irvine is a parish of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter within the Catholic Church, and it worships in the Queen of Life Chapel. Sunday Masses are held at 9 a.m., a Sung Mass, and 11 a.m., the principal Solemn Mass, and confession can be made available before each Mass. The liturgy follows Divine Worship: The Missal, rooted in the English Catholic tradition. At the 9 a.m. Mass the Propers are chanted and the entrance and procession hymns are sung a cappella, while at 11 a.m. the choir and congregation sing the parts of the Mass together. Any Catholic may attend Mass at the parish.

Parish life includes a choir that draws on English hymnody and Anglican chant, an altar server guild called the Knights of the Credence Table, and an ushers and hospitality team that gives newcomers a brief introduction to the Ordinariate form of the Mass. The Kindly Light Women's Club offers social gatherings, volunteer events and opportunities for spiritual growth, and a Prayer Partner/Meal Train ministry helps families after a new baby or the loss of a loved one. Theology on Tap OC invites the public to hear speakers on Catholic theology in a casual setting, and those talks and parish homilies are published as podcasts.
