United Methodist Church of the Joyful Healer

About this church

The Church of the Joyful Healer worships Sundays from 10 to 11 a.m. at its Central Avenue building in McKinleyville and publishes a Zoom link for remote participation. It describes itself as an inclusive community of Jesus’ disciples practicing radical hospitality with open hearts, minds, and doors. Children may worship beside their families, hear a dedicated children’s message, and use a play area inside the sanctuary while adults continue participating. Its JoyWorks program has served preschool-age children and older in different forms, so families should ask what format is operating on the Sunday they plan to attend.

Community care is especially visible through Saturday Gathering, a free weekly meal held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for people experiencing homelessness or food insecurity. Begun as Saturday Soup in October 2016, it now offers sandwiches, protein, and other hot foods; a partner shower trailer comes on second Saturdays and connects guests with clothing and resources. Seven selected Sundays each year are set aside for a different Sabbath emphasis, making advance calendar checks worthwhile. Ask the church directly about childcare, Communion, baptism, accessible facilities, Zoom replays, and the dates selected for Sabbath Sundays.
