First Baptist Church of Salinas

About this church

First Baptist Church of Salinas begins Sunday spiritual-formation classes at 9 a.m. and worship at 10:30 in the main sanctuary. The approximately seventy-five-minute service blends classic hymns with contemporary songs, corporate prayer, giving, and expository preaching, followed by coffee and conversation. A livestream is available for worship, while some formation gatherings use the Fireside Room and Zoom. Dress ranges from suits to jeans, and the church explicitly says there is no dress code. Its vision centers on worshiping Christ, growing as disciples, and serving the Salinas Valley.

During the 10:30 service, nursery and children's ministry provide age-appropriate Scripture, music, prayer, crafts, and play; volunteers receive background checks, and older children may remain in the sanctuary. Journey youth ministry combines games, serious discussion, and biblical teaching for middle- and high-school students, with a published Thursday gathering from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a Sunday class listed for 9 a.m. The congregation traces its roots to a schoolroom Bible hour begun by two teachers in 1869 and formally organized with sixteen members in 1874. Families should confirm the current age-room assignments and youth calendar with the office, since program pages contain more detail than the visitor overview.
