Saint Matthew Lutheran Church

About this church

Saint Matthew Lutheran Church offers two Sunday worship styles at 13880 Joshua Way in Sonora. Traditional worship with hymns and liturgy begins at 8:00 a.m., a Scripture discussion hour at 9:15, and contemporary worship with modern liturgy and music at 10:30. Children are encouraged to attend either service with their families, although a nursery is available. The visitor guide also invites children to come forward during Communion for a blessing, giving parents a clear way to include them in the sacramental part of worship.

The congregation's mission is sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the community and beyond. Its official site explains Lutheran beliefs and sacred traditions, provides sermons, accepts confidential prayer requests, and offers one-to-one care through Stephen Ministry. Trained Stephen Ministers accompany people experiencing grief, illness, job loss, caregiving pressure, or other difficult seasons, adding a pastoral-care dimension beyond public services. Elders support the spiritual life and welfare of the congregation and pastor. For a first visit, Saint Matthew makes comparison unusually easy: an early traditional service, a discussion hour, and a later contemporary service all happen in sequence, while families can choose between keeping children beside them and using the nursery.
