St George's Episcopal Church

About this church

St. George Episcopal Mission holds evening prayer and church service every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at 200 West Fourth Street in Leadville. The congregation’s concise mission is to build community by welcoming, nourishing, and loving neighbors. That language is literal as well as spiritual: the church’s food-security program serves hot lunches four days a week and opens its pantry three days a week. The site’s 2025 impact report records 11,348 meals, 15,346 pantry visits, 625,000 pounds of food distributed, and 3,649 volunteer hours across Lake County and the surrounding region.

Founded during Leadville’s mining boom in 1882, St. George adapted as the community changed. When the Climax Mine closed in 1992, volunteers began an informal meal effort with donated pantry goods; over three decades it grew into today’s meal and pantry operation. The building also hosts Alcoholics Anonymous on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings and Al-Anon on Wednesdays, though the Al-Anon time varies. This is therefore both an Episcopal worshiping community and a heavily used neighborhood support hub. Visitors seeking Sunday prayer have one clear weekly hour, while anyone looking for meals, pantry access, or recovery meetings should confirm the current program schedule directly.
