Our Lady of Aparecida Parish — Paróquia Nossa Senhora Aparecida

About this church

Our Lady of Aparecida Parish in Bethel is a Brazilian-American Catholic community with a bilingual public presence and a predominantly Portuguese Mass schedule. Weekend Masses are Saturday at 5 and 7 p.m.; Sunday at 7:30 and 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. in English, and 6 p.m. in Portuguese. Daily Mass is offered Monday through Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m., and Thursday at 6:45 a.m. Saturday confession is available from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Named for Brazil's patroness, the parish describes itself as the first official Brazilian parish in the United States bearing her name. The community began in 1999, became a quasi-parish in 2020, and now serves more than 1,100 registered families from its repurposed Bethel property. Parish life includes twenty-eight active ministries, year-round preparation for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, and Anointing of the Sick, plus religious education for children, youth, and adults. A Tuesday prayer group meets at 8 p.m.; young adults meet on the first and third Friday from 8 to 9, and a monthly group welcomes teenagers ages thirteen through seventeen. Visitors seeking an English-language liturgy should choose Sunday at 11:30; other listed Masses are in Portuguese.
