St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church

About this church

St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church is an Eastern Orthodox parish in Orange, Connecticut, serving Greater New Haven through worship, fellowship, cultural life, education, and community outreach. The Divine Liturgy stands at the center of parish identity, with Orthros preparing the congregation through morning prayer. Worship is participatory: people sing responses, make the sign of the cross, bow, and stand for much of the service, although pews are available for those who need them. Youth ministry ranges from parent-and-preschool gatherings to JOY and GOYA, helping children and teenagers become active sacramental members of the church. Mission work connects the parish with Orthodox relief and mission organizations and local food support.

The regular Sunday schedule is Orthros at 8:30 a.m. and Divine Liturgy at 9:45. A separate worship page lists summer hours of 8:15 and 9:30, so visitors during summer should confirm which schedule is in effect. Weekday feast-day services normally begin with Orthros at 9:00 a.m. and Divine Liturgy at 10:00. The church is at 480 Racebrook Road. Someone unfamiliar with Orthodoxy should expect a longer, highly symbolic liturgy rather than a sermon-centered Protestant service, and may find the parish’s Orthodox-worship guide useful before attending. Lenten, Holy Week, and feast schedules change throughout the ecclesiastical year.
