St Ann Melkite Catholic Church

About this church

St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church in Waterford celebrates Divine Liturgy at 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. Sunday. The Byzantine Catholic parish uses the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom through most of the year and the longer Liturgy of St. Basil on designated feasts and Lenten Sundays, with music, icons, incense, prayer, Scripture, and Eucharist shaping its worship.

St. Ann was organized for immigrants from Lebanon and Syria who came to southeastern Connecticut in the early twentieth century and wanted to preserve their Catholic faith and Byzantine liturgical heritage. Religious education includes free Eastern Catholic resources for adults and children, plus a Montessori-based Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for ages three through eleven. The parish also publishes a Melkite calendar and explanations of liturgical gestures for people unfamiliar with the tradition. Visitors can attend either weekend Liturgy and may find the online worship guide useful before entering a service whose forms differ from a typical Latin-rite Mass.
