St. Joseph's Church

About this church

St. Joseph Catholic Church in Makawao celebrates weekend Mass on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 7:00 and 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Daily Mass is offered Monday through Saturday at 7:00 a.m. The parish also publishes Saturday reconciliation from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday Holy Hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Friday adoration following morning Mass until 8:30. These times come from the current parish homepage; a separate, older services page still displays an additional Sunday 11:00 a.m. Mass, so visitors should rely on the homepage or call before planning around that time.

The parish describes the Eucharist as the source and summit of its life and connects worship with Christ-like works and words. Its ministries include children's and adult faith formation, youth confirmation, young-adult ministry, liturgical service, and Communion visits for people who are homebound. Practical community work is visible too: St. Joseph operates a food pantry distribution on the third Thursday of the month and a parish thrift shop with published weekly hours. The parish's Makawao roots reach to 1911, when the present church was blessed, and its history records a community shaped by Upcountry Maui's changing plantation-era population.
