About this church

The Newman Catholic Center serves Eastern Illinois University students and the wider Charleston Catholic community through Mass, reconciliation, Eucharistic adoration, prayer, formation, fellowship, mission, and campus-year events. Its schedule deliberately distinguishes the parish Mass from a late student Mass, while weekday chapel hours give students a place to pray between classes and activities.

Saturday reconciliation runs from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed by Vigil Mass at 5:00. Sunday parish Mass begins at 9:30 a.m., and the regular student Mass at 8:00 p.m., with reconciliation from 7:00 to 7:45. The first student Mass of the academic year is a noon Welcome Mass instead of 8:00 because of an evening campus event; students should follow the dated welcome-week page for that exception. Weekday Mass is Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday adoration runs 8:00–9:00 p.m., with reconciliation beginning at 8:15. The chapel is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and a door code can provide additional access. Calendar events vary with the university year.
