St. John Paul II Newman Center

About this church

St. John Paul II Newman Center is the Catholic campus ministry at the University of Illinois Chicago, located at 700 S. Morgan Street in Chicago. Sunday Mass is celebrated at 11 a.m., with weekday Masses at noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Confession is offered Sunday through Friday in the hour before each Mass, and Eucharistic adoration takes place weekday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4 to 5 p.m. The schedule follows the UIC academic calendar, so check the center's calendar to confirm Mass is in session. The center, dedicated in 1980 and named for Pope John Paul II after his visit to Chicago, serves both Catholic and non-Catholic students.

Students can join Bible studies for women and men centered on Scripture and friendship, and anyone interested in becoming Catholic or completing the sacraments can reach out through an OCIA inquiry form. Volunteers serve as ushers, lectors, altar servers and choir members. Cor Coffee, a coffee bar inside the center run as its main outreach, is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. A gated lot on site offers free parking during Mass times, with monthly spaces rented to students and others. Questions can be sent by email to jp2newman@gmail.com; hours and times may change, so confirm on the website.
