Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church

About this church

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is a Roman Catholic parish in Darien with roots in Carmelite spirituality. Established in 1970, the parish celebrated its first Mass in a rented school gymnasium and met in several locations before dedicating its permanent church in 1976. Its mission presents the parish as a diverse community alive in Christ, rooted in faith, responsive to the gospel, and committed to ministering to others. Weekend Masses are offered Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday at 8:15 and 10:00 a.m. and noon; weekday Mass is celebrated Monday through Saturday at 9:00.

The parish welcomes short-term visitors, returning Catholics, people seeking a parish home, and those interested in becoming Catholic. Saturday reconciliation is available from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m., and monthly First Friday adoration runs from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Ministries include faith formation for children and adults, youth and young-adult groups, support for special-needs parishioners, Carmelite formation, prayer and grief care, and outreach through food, clothing, shelter, garden, and blood-drive programs. The church is located at 8404 South Cass Avenue.
