Urban Village Church

About this church

Urban Village Church’s River Forest community worships Sundays at 10:30 a.m. inside River Forest United Methodist Church at 7970 Lake Street. Urban Village is a multi-site, multi-denominational church, so visitors should choose the River Forest listing rather than one of its Chicago locations or the general livestream. The church welcomes people from many spiritual traditions as well as those with no religious background and describes its mission as creating Jesus-loving, inclusive communities that ignite the city.

Urban Village identifies as a Reconciling Congregation, celebrates queer Christians throughout church life, and is committed to deepening anti-racist practice. Connection options include a one-on-one coffee with a pastor, small groups, volunteering, and justice work. Its service partners address hunger and homelessness through organizations such as the Night Ministry, Chicago Bridge Project, and South Loop Community Table; Faith in Action teams also work with Community Renewal Society on policy and community conditions. Sunday volunteers may serve Communion, bring refreshments, read Scripture, or share testimony. For someone comparing campuses, River Forest offers the near-west-suburban expression of the same wider Urban Village mission.
