Second Baptist Church of Rock Island

About this church

Second Baptist Church of Rock Island worships Sunday at 10 a.m. in person and on Facebook Live. Its homepage lists Sunday School at 9 a.m. in person and on Zoom, while the contact page retains an older-looking 8:30 a.m. Zoom-only notice; guests should confirm which education schedule is current. Wednesday prayer meeting and Bible study is published from 7 to 8 p.m. on Zoom. A Thursday study is marked suspended until further notice, so it should not be treated as an active weekly option.

The congregation's history reaches to a West Side Mission House built in 1869, McKinley Chapel in 1870–71, and formal organization in 1873. Its vision is an inclusive, Gospel-centered community that connects people to God, grows together, pursues excellence, and extends God's kingdom. Ministries include youth, Christian education, missions, prayer, food pantry, scholarships, music, dance, athletics, transportation, and media. The SBC Outreach Music and Arts Academy provides affordable music and performing-arts instruction to students of varied ages as a separate community program. Sunday visitors can attend worship in either format; those adding Sunday School need direct confirmation because the two official pages disagree by thirty minutes and by whether the class is onsite.
