First Presbyterian Church

About this church

First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon follows a seasonal Sunday schedule: worship begins at 10:15 a.m. from the weekend after Labor Day through Memorial Day weekend, then moves to 9:30 a.m. for summer. Services are available in the historic sanctuary and online. After worship, everyone is invited to the fellowship hall for food and conversation. Music is a visible part of congregational life, with instrumentalists and the New Song Team supporting worship.

Children and youth from age two through eighteen have age-appropriate learning designed around the same biblical story being explored across generations. Older teenagers and young adults can join open forums with church elders for candid questions, while a six-week confirmation class prepares those choosing congregational membership. The church describes itself as a self-governing community that values connection, discipleship, and learning together. For first-time visitors, the seasonal time change is the most important planning detail; the shared meal after worship, intergenerational curriculum, youth discussion, and online option then show how the community extends beyond the sanctuary hour.
